Dance For Autism!

On Saturday, September 7th from 11:00 – 3:00,
Suzanne DeRosa, Owner of The Little Green Tambourine in Canton CT will be
hosting a “Dance For Autism” in her Studio.
The event will include music, dancing, sensory activities, face
painting, snacks, dance demos, raffles and games.

According to Autism Speaks, a non-profit organization founded by a Grandmother
of a child with Autism, 1 in 88 children (1 in 54 boys) are affected by
Autism.

   In 2001 Suzanne’s
son Hunter began showing signs of Autism.
He was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at age 3 and has been on the spectrum
every since.  He is now 14 years old and
is high functioning.  His interests are
not like typical children. He loves cars and steam engines and talks about them
incessantly.  He can take apart old
electronics and rebuild them.  He is
nostalgic, sensitive and extremely shy.

He is amazing, but it has been a challenge for him to
succeed in the real world.   Suzanne and
her three children have been volunteering for the “Walk for Autism” since 2008
and continue to attend and donate to various “Autism Speaks” events in the
area.

   Thanks to research
there has been much progress made in understanding the cause and treatment for
Autism, but there is so much we still don’t understand.  “Autism
Speaks” is involved in
funding research into the
causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of
autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with
autism and their families.

Please come support this cause.
Bring your kids, enjoy the day, and learn more about Autism and the
resources available in our area.  All
proceeds go to “Autism Speaks”.
