Running In Freezing Temps - Barefoot

Well, I started running outdoors about a year ago and this past summer I took off my sneakers mid-run and attempted to run in my bare feet. But that is another story.

This fall, as temps were dropping into the 40s, I got a post from a barefoot runner. It was a spreadsheet of miles (or kilometers) logged in sub 42*F weather.

This being my first winter since trying barefoot running, had me pretty wary of this idea. I'd been asking veteran barefooters for months for their advice and experiences. It really came down to "it's not as bad as you think, if your feet are dry, but be careful".

Today I ran 3.25 miles. A shortish run for  me.  My feet got numb. At the halfway turn around, I held my toes to try and warm them, but they didn't really feel that cold. It was a sunny day which I think helped a lot. It was 29 degrees, but "feels like 21" which I think is the windchill.

So, I was able to add my miles to the international list of cold-weather barefoot runners today. My feet didn't hurt when I got warm either. I felt I could have gone a little farther, but wanted to be safe and my feet did feel cold, I should say, toes felt cold.

Ok, some people dislike photos of feet, but a picture is worth ... Well, a lot. The photos look worse than the feet felt I think.
