New Hartford Fire Rescue coordinated many of the area fire department activities.

DEEP is heading the search, however, and had assistance from state police and others.

As many in Collinsville witnessed over the weekend, Coast Guard helicopters also assisted in the search.

While local volunteers have scaled back, the level of the EnCon officers is the same and a day-to-day evaluation will be done, DEEP spokeswoman Cyndy Chanaca said.

The incident is under investigation, she added.

Late Saturday morning, state police, the Department of Environmental Protection and other agencies were still searching the Farmington River for a missing woman who had been in raft or tube on New Hartford earlier in the day.

Earlier story

The town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department assisted in a New Hartford based-search for a missing tuber (or person with a similar small craft) Saturday morning.

Shortly before 10 a.m. it was still active and a Coast Guard helicopter had scanned the river in the Collinsville area.

New Hartford Fire Rescue Chief Mark Worsman said the call came in at 5:15 a.m. for one missing female party possibly in or along the water. She had been in a small tube or similar craft, according to reports. Crews were initially dispatched to the Satan's Kingdom Road area in New Hartford. Crews walked both sides of the river and boats navigated areas as well, he said.

Canton's Marine 1 boat, navigated by Canton volunteers was one involved.

In Canton, members for the Volunteer Fire and EMS Department searched downstream areas of the river as well. In addition, Canton crews were on scene at the Satan's Kingdom tubing area in New Hartford.

Other departments, including Pleasant Valley and Nepaug, were also assisting New Hartford crews.

At 8 a.m., Canton units had already been dismissed but state police were at Michaelangelo's in New Hartford with MDC and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. New Hartford area fire departments were also still active in the search.

One police representative said an active search for "primarily" one individual was still active and said aerial units were being called. Also at scene were individual(s) who had been with the missing woman earlier but police did not disclose details.
