Since 1971, Canton High and Middle schools have been housed at 76 Simonds Ave. At that time, just shy of 700 studentsMore in grades 7 to 12 attended the school, while in 2010, some 714 were enrolled in the high school alone.</p> <p>Canton High has been lauded for its academic, sports and music programs. It was named a 2010 Grammy Signature School and a silver medal winner in the 2010 U.S. News and World Report Best High School search.</p> <p>Sports teams have won numerous state championships, and the school's athletics program continues to grow. In 2007, varsity football returned to Canton after a 43-year absence.</p> <p>The school's community involvement remains high, with organizations like the Canton Athletic Boosters Club, Canton Education Foundation, Canton Dollars for School and Canton Parents as Teachers. </p>

Electives include a broad range of subjects including foreign language, technology, art and band. Community involvement is also emphasized. The school was named the Connecticut Association of Schools' Middle School of the Year for 2008-2009.

Canton Intermediate School serves nearly 400 students in fourth through sixth grades. CMT test data for 2010 showed a aMore 90 percent or greater proficiency in math, reading and writing from every grade level at the school. Academic life also includes initiatives such as nature's classroom, where students learn about the environment and responsive classroom, which provides students with the chance to socially interact with classmates and teachers at the beginning of the day. Students also learn to give back and help the less fortunate through initiatives such as the Kids Care Club. In 2010, CIS received an Exemplary School Climate Award from the Connecticut Association of Schools.
