Al, where's the risk? The grid is out-dated, inefficient and needs an update. This money can…Read More either go back to the rate-payer to lower their need for electricity, or it can go to utilities to update the grid so the they can continue to sell you more of the commodity. For every house that goes solar, energy requirements equal to roughly THREE houses is removed from the grid. Energy that would have been spent transporting your energy for miles and miles.
Now, Greg will generate and consume his power right there on the spot. I have a Solar PV system, too. We ALL benefit from lower demand charges and less frequent brown-outs and blackouts, thanks to this distributed generation. As a result, the utilities don't have to fire up their diesel peaking stations as often (which they would charge you for, by the way). It just so happens that solar performs at its best when the demand on the grid is heaviest. Seems like a great place to put rate-payer funds.
These arrays have been around for 60+ years. Proven technology with no moving parts and a 30-40 year lifespan. Not exactly a waste of money for what we get.
You should consider chipping in and being a part of the solution, too. That's what these funds do: motivate PRIVATE investment into solving a PUBLIC problem. Best, Stephan.

Mr. Boyko, why are you taking money from those who can least afford it? If you like the idea and…Read More risks associated with Solar energy you should be willing to risk your own money!
Canton citizens, the next time you open your electric bill read the line "Comb Public Benefit Chrg." This is your payment towards Mr. Boyko's new solar panels that will save him $2,000.00 a year.
Last year Connecticut rate payers transferred $27 million dollars from their pay checks to the Connecticut government for this program.
