Back to School, FOCUS Center for Autism Fundraiser and the Kortchmar McDonald Band

Here's some of what's going on in Canton from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, 2013.

Welcome to Monday, Aug. 26, 2013. It may be back to work — it certainly is for your faithful editor, John Fitts — but there's plenty to do in Canton this week.

1. Don't look now, but it's back to school time! Canton Public Schools head back Wednesday, Aug. 28, much to the chagrin of children across town. Check out our Back to School section for tips and tricks on how to make the transition a bit easier, and be sure to click on the 2013-14 school calendar

2. Even though it's time to trudge back into the hallowed hallways of learning, there's still time to have fun! Valley Sports Center is offering a two-day Back to School Olympics Camp Aug. 26 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

3. The FOCUS Center for Autism is holding a fundraiser at the Red Stone Pub in Simsbury featuring special guest Shannon Knall Tuesday, Aug. 27, from  6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Many fabulous raffle prizes will be up for grabs!

4. The Farmington Valley VNA is holding another free blood-pressure screening at the Canton Community Center Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 11:30 a.m. No appointment necessary.

5. After a hard week of work, step out to Bridge Street Live and check out the Kortchmar McDonald Band with special guest Lipbone Redding. Show starts at 8 p.m.; tickets are $17 General Admission, $27 VIP.
