Collinsville Halloween Parade Canceled

Organizers say safety issue will prevent closing of Main Street.

The annual Collinsville Halloween Parade has been canceled due to a safety issue, organizers said.

John Squier, aka Jon Art, said he has learned that police can not close the road if it's snowing, leaving no choice but to cancel.

"Sadly we're not going to be able to do it this year," said Squier, who also plays Monster of Ceremonies Boosilini. "It's a safety issue. We can't close down Main Street if it's snowing."

Organizers don't set a "rain date" due to the thought that the event goes on despite weather conditions but Squier said there will be one next year.

The event was to be the 18th annual one sponsored by the Collinsville Artists Initiative. Many hours of work went into the event and local musicians, dancers, drummers and numerous others had planned to be part of it.
