Canton Native Rides for MS

Connie Carpenter supports friends battling disease.

Canton native Connie Carpenter gives the peace sign just before the start of the 100-mile route at the 2012 Bike MS: Red Thread+Steelcase Ride, held Sunday, June 3, in Windsor. Carpenter cycled on Team Mitchell, formed by Mark Mitchell of Mitchell Volkswagen in Canton.

To date the team has raised more than $5,500 toward a $15,000 goal. Carpenter rides in support of friends battling multiple sclerosis, including childhood friend Robbin Goodskey, who grew up in Cantonand now lives in New Hartford. Funds raised through chapter events, such as Bike MS, ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure for multiple sclerosis, a potentially debilitating disease.

Funds also provide for vital programs and services offered by the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, to the more than 6,000 residents in the state living with multiple sclerosis. More than 950 cyclists saddled up for Sunday, June 3, to raise approximately $435,000 toward a $500,000 goal.
