Tim O'Donnell Named Coach of the Year at Canton High School

O'Donnell also received the C. Fred Kelly Coaches Award in 2012.

For the second year running, Tim O'Donnell has been named Canton's coach of the Year.

He was awarded the C. Fred Kelly Coaches award. Votes come from current coaches and O'Donnell also garnered the honor in the Spring of 2012.

O'Donnell is head coach for both Boys and Girls Indoor and Outdoor Track Teams as well as a coach for Boys Cross Country.

The honor was announced last week at the Canton High School Athletic Awards Ceremony.

"It is very nice to be honored by my fellow coaches, but I can't help but point out that the recognition is really much more an appreciation of the performance of some especially driven kids," O'Donnell said. "I have been fortunate to be along for the ride."

Athletic director Dee Stephan gave O'Donnell a little more credit.

"Tim is a coach that all athletes flock to," she said. "They love to hang out in his classroom."

"He pushes them to reach their potential not only as individuals but also as a group," Stephan said. "His incredible track mind is able to move athletes into events that will help for team victories, and the athletes buy into the team concept willing to sacrifice their own 'medals' in order for the team to win."
