Taverneers Vintage Base Ball Club Makes Its Canton Debut

After nine season in Simsbury the Taverneers Vintage Base Ball Club made its Canton Debut Sunday afternoon.

The visiting Westfield Wheelmen "bested the home Taverneers eight aces to four in a nine-frame match," said first baseman Mike "Stretch" D'Apice.

D'Apice said he wants to thank Canton Parks and Recreation Direct Brian Wilson for facilitating the move to Canton and and Stan Krzanowski for scheduling the Sunday game at Bowdoin Field.

Future home games will take place at Mills Pond, including a match against The Newtown Sandy Hooks on May 18 at 10:30 a.m.

"I invite anyone who is a base ball (yes, two words in the 1880s) fan (“crank” as you’d have been called in the 1880’s) or anyone who feels urged to share space with Newtown-folk to spectate at that match and to encourage our opponents as if they were the home club," D'Apice said.
