For event chair Mary Tomolonius one exciting aspect of Sam Collins Day is its food court. Not only does it offer a chance for people to sample some of the area's eateries but affordable prices allow families to enjoy the entire event.
"You don't have to spend a fortune to have a good time," Tomolonius said.
Saturday Sept. 21 (Rain Date Sept. 22) will mark the 19th annual event, which features a business expo, community organizations, a made in Connecticut tent, live entertainment, children's inflatables and more. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the field on Canton Springs Road. Additional activities take place in Collinsville and shuttle service is offered between the two sites.
The day begins with a Lions Club Breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. in the firehouse on Canton Springs Road.
Tomolonius mentioned a few other highlights The Made in Connecticut tent will feature 14 crafters and a new layout designed to provide better circulation with the rest of the event. Local cartoonist Brad Gilchrist has once again designed the event's logo and will sign shirts for a time in the morning. In addition, new inflatable attractions will be offered, she said.
The Canton Chamber of Commerce, Canton Lions Club, Rotary Club of Avon-Canton and the Town of Canton sponsor the event.
