Canton Little League Season Begins

It's time to play ball -- majors baseball begins; softball and farm to start soon.

The 2011 Canton Little League season kicked off Saturday April 9 with three majors baseball games. The Mets and the Giants took the field in the morning, followed by the Braves vs. Red Sox at noon at Angels vs. Dodgers at 3 p.m.  The Dodgers, Red Sox and Mets recorded wins.

A week earlier, on Saturday, April 2, more than 50 parents, players and coaches came out to Dyer and Millennium fields and raked leaves, installed billboards, changed scoreboard light bulbs and performed dozens of other tasks to get the fields ready for the season.

About 190 kids, mostly boys, play baseball and roughly 100 girls play softball for Little League, said Wendy VandeBogart, vice president of Canton Little League baseball.
