Marlins Win Division Championship

Canton Little League AAA division teams play through continuation, second game and a little rain.

It took a continuation, a second game and more than a few rain drops but the Marlins were crowned Canton Little League AAA division champions Tuesday night.

Despite some light rain, the Mets and the Marlins met at 5 p.m. to continue a game called the night before due to time limits. The Mets won the game but the Marlins until then had been undefeated in the playoffs. So, due to double elimation rules, a second game was started after league officials used some turf building dirt to absorb some moisture on the field.

It was another back- and forth-game but the Marlins were on top 17-5 when it was called after four innings.

Marlins manager Chris Clark said he was proud of his team and their hard work. At the beginning of the season, the players decided to be a team that was not afraid to have fun yet remain serious, he said.

As the scores toggled back and forth over the two days, the players experienced a wide range of emotions.

"The kids have worked hard," Clark said. "Today they learned baseball can be a roller coaster."

Mets manager Paul Amrose said the teams were pretty evenly matched and offered his congratulations to the Marlins.

"The kids, they learned so much," he said. "You couldn't ask for a better situation. It's just exciting to be a part of it."
