Disappointing Quarterfinal Loss for Canton Boys Soccer Team

Still many say it’s been a great season.

It was a tough quarterfinal loss to Somers for the Boys Varsity Soccer team Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Ben Corbett scored two goals for Canton but Somers eked out a 3-2 victory.

Still it was a good season with a strong finish and the Wednesday the boys showed character, principal Gary Gula said.

“Our boys played hard throughout the game and never gave up,” he said. “I am very proud of them.”

Wayne Goeben, whose son Keith is a senior and team member, said it has been a great season.

“They are a terrific group of kids, and I've thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow up,” Goeben said.

Canton had reached advanced in the Class Tournament after defeating Parish Hill 4-1 Friday and Housatonic Regional by a score of 2-1 Saturday.

The Warriors finished the regular season with a 9-7 record, according to this earlier feature in the Collinsville Press.

I would like to thank all the seniors for the thrilling season they provided for their parents and fans, and their guidance to the underclassman helping them hone their craft for their upcoming campaigns. They played their hearts out yesterday and should be proud. With marginal officiating at best I do not believe the better team won yesterday in Somers. Al Hanson
