The Board of Education approved a change in its pay-to-play sports policy Tuesday night that will cause some Canton High School families to pay more next year, according to a Hartford Courant article.
Though the board did not increase the fees to play most sports - $250 for football and $100 for other sports – it did remove the cap on how much families must pay, the article says.
Previously, a family would pay no more than $300 per year regardless of the number of students playing or sports played.

Fees will increase from $100 to $375 to participate on the school’s golf team. According to the article, that increase will include a $200 greens fee and a $75 uniform fee. Students must provide their own clubs.
Financial assistance is available if the fees present a hardship for families. No student will be denied participation in any sport, Canton Superintendent of Schools Kevin Case said.
