A Varied Menu Adds to Friday Night Football Fun

If you’re looking for a dining option Friday night, the hometown football game might be just the place.

In addition to a historic first game on Canton’s brand new track and field facility, Friends of Canton Football parents, with the help of Canton Athletic Booster Club members and some generous restaurants, will be serving up a varied menu.

It’s just another aspect to an evening that includes a game under the lights, a Senior Night ceremony and more.

“We’re looking for it to be a community event for the whole family,” said Kathy Wood, Canton Friends of Football treasurer and head of concessions.

Selections will include standard grilled fare such as hot dogs, hamburgers/cheeseburgers and cheese and chili dogs. Also available will be pork sandwiches from Smokin’ Spokes and chili and clam chowder from the Crown and Hammer. Most menu items will be between $2 and $5.

Hot and cold drink, snacks and baked goods will round out the menu.

All proceeds go back to Friends of Canton Football.

The food should be ready around 5:30 p.m. The fun on the field begins at 6 p.m. when the 11 Canton seniors on the team will be honored.

At 6:30 p.m. the team takes on Lewis Mills. Cost is $5 adults and $3 for Senior Citizens and Students. Kids 5 and under are free.

While the new track and field facility was deemed OK for play on Tuesday, it does not yet have a scoreboard. The FOCF rented bleachers to sit 450 and The Ethel Walker School has donated use of a portable scoreboard. Spectators will sit outside the fenced area, keeping all food and the bleachers off the new surfaces.

Earlier this fall, the school obtained permission to use temporary lights for the game.

While the field’s completion took longer than planned, excitement has been high for its debut.

“We are so excited that one of the fall high school teams is going to have an opportunity to play on the turf field,” said booster Club president Ann Bonini. “It has been a whirlwind of a week for Friends of Canton Football in trying to prepare for the night game with the last minute decision coming earlier in the week. We hope the community comes out to support the football team the same way they did during Spirit Week.”
