When did your business get started?
'I started The Proud Peacock in 2005. After having retail shops, I decided to go out to customers, instead of waiting for them to come to me, by being vendor of the day at corporate workplaces. That expanded to doing craft fairs, flower shows, county fairs, etc all over CT, Western MA, Cape Cod, Bangor ME Flower Show, a 6 day Catskills county fair & the Big E for the past 9 yrs, where I own my own barn. And I also run my whole website, which I designed myself'
Why did you choose the town you chose to start your business in?
'I live in Canton where I mostly just run the website in addition to occasional local shows & local customers who stop by to pick up orders. The rest of the time, I'm on the road!'
What is your business best known for?
'I have 2 separate, but coordinating lines: Known as "The Scarf Lady" & having sold thousands of them, I know exactly what to buy. Only the loveliest, cream-of-the-crop Pashmina shawl/scarves, as well as my hot selling Ruana (Capes). My passion is my photography, & I sell it on Handbags, Cosmetics Cases, Throw Pillow Covers, & more.'
What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?
' I have Shawl Styling Videos (professionally done by Collinsville resident Jeff Schlicter) on my website & YouTube, of me demonstrating the many unique ways I've come up with to wear them & have over 60,000 YouTube views, a well known Fashion Blogger found my video & posted it on his Blog, & also, people have subscribed to my Channel from all over the world.'
