Winter Festival to Once Again Benefit Cherry Brook, Canton Intermediate PTOs

Businesses and residents can sponsor or donate to event.

In what’s become a seasonal ritual in Canton, a group of parents is busy planning for an effort that brings in thousands of dollars for students at Cherry Brook Primary and Canton Intermediate schools.

The event is the annual PTO Winter Festival, featuring an online auction and live event that benefits Parent Teacher Organizations at both schools.

It’s not small event, generating in excess of $31,000 last year.

The funds raised by the event, combined with the live auction and event set for March 2, also make for a chance for parents to enjoy an evening out and a chance to bond with other parents.

Co-chairwoman Chrissy Kelly feels that will be especially important this year.

“In light of everything happened at Sandy Hook it’s nice to have an event to bring the community together,” Kelly said.

Co-chairing with her are Jen Charron and Elizabeth Haynes from the Canton Intermediate PTO and Natalie Sklenka, Marnie Hudnall and Tracy Renaud from the Cherry Brook organization.

The online auction begins Thursday Feb. 14, 2013 and ends Thursday Feb. 28 and the live event is set for March 2 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Bridge Street Live for the fourth year. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased through the event web site or at the door.

This year during the event, Valley Sports Center is sponsoring a Kids Night Out from 6:45 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. for those ages 6 and up. Cost will be $30 per child or $50 per family.

While the event is some time away, there are ways businesses and residents can help.

The committee would love auction items from local business or from residents who are interested in donating merchandise, collectibles or other items, such as sports tickets. Anyone interested in helping can contact Tracy Renaud at (860) 693-3720 or tzrenaud@yahoo.com

Various levels of sponsorships are also available. In addition to helping with the event, sponsors receive some advertising benefits at the auction web site and in an event program. Those interested can contact Marnie Hudnall at (860) 693-8717 CantonPTO@biddingforgood.org or send donations to 4 Barbourtown Road, Canton, CT 06019.

Residents can sign up for sponsorships or donations through Feb. 1.
