School District Hires Interim AD

Permanent replacement expected by December.

Former Suffield High School Athletic Director Fran Aniello has been appointed to temporarily take on that role in Canton.

He will serve as Interim Athletic Director through December.

Aniello has coached basketball, soccer, golf and baseball and was involved in Suffield athletics for more than 30 years, including nine as AD. He retired in 2008 and coached basketball for much of his career.

He said as that town played Canton in North Central Connecticut Conference, he was always impressed with Canton's athletes.

"I've always enjoyed my relationship with Canton," Aniello said. "It seemed like a nice place to work. They compete hard and do well for a small school."

Superintendent Kevin Case said the school received a few applications for the interim position and interviewed two candidates before choosing Aniello.

"He came very highly recommended,” Case said.

Case said a committee will work to find candidates for permanent replacement for John Bement, who resigned the post for a job in the private sector.

Case said he hopes a permanent replacement is in place some time in December.

"We hope to have a smooth transition in leadership with our athletics," Case said.
