School Board May Appoint Assistant Superintendent Next Week

Candidate would replace Lynn McMullin when she leaves at the end of December.

The Canton Board of Education is expected to appoint a new assistant superintendent of schools next week.

On the board's agenda is both an executive session to discuss the position and an item for the "appointment of assistant superintendent of schools."

"We have an executive session to interview a candidate," board chairwoman Beth Kandrysawtz said.

If appointed, the person would fill the position of current assistant superintendent Lynn McMullin, who is leaving the district at the end of December to be superintendent in Orange, Connecticut.

That district selected her in July and the Canton school board accepted her resignation at its August meeting.

Among the assistant superintendent's responsibilities are: curriculum development, curriculum evaluation, implementing the district's technology plan, working on professional development, assessing testing efficiency and evaluation and grant applications.

Kandrysawtz would not elaborate on the process for finding a replacement but did say a candidate for any top administrative post always has a final interview before the board, she said.

Kandrysawtz said she could not comment further and would not state if the candidate already works for the school system. She did say the board is committed to filling the position with a highly qualified person.

"We always seek to fill any opening with highly qualified, outstanding candidates," she said
