School Athletic Study to Begin Soon

Parents, coaches and student athletes will have chance to fill out online survey.

In roughly a week and a half parents, coaches and student athletes will have the chance to participate in a survey on the school system’s athletic program, Superintendent Kevin Case told the Board of Education Tuesday.

“The goal is to identify the strengths of the athletic program and the areas that need improvement,” Case said.

The survey will be facilitated by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference and will be done through its web site.

Once the survey is complete, the CIAC will gather the data and send a report. A self-study committee, which will include middle and high-school representatives, will then begin looking at the results. In addition, The CIAC will also further assists the district with focus group and other methods, Case said.

“I’m really excited about this,” Case said. “It will give us some great feedback.”

Case said he met with CIAC representatives last week. And while the current questions are geared more to high-school sports, they are working to better incorporate the middle-school level as well, he said.

The survey will also correspond nicely with the school system’s search for a new athletic director, Case said.

Current AD John Bement will be leaving in Oct. 1. The district is looking to hire a temporary replacement while the search begins for a permanent one.

The school will use the Alert Now e-mail system to notify parents and students when the survey begins, Case said.
