Robotics Coming to Cherry Brook Primary School Next Year

PTO raises $41,000, will host Children's Fair May 31.

Thanks to its Parent Teacher Organization, Cherry Brook Primary School will offer robotics next year.

For one of its initiatives this year, the organization funded six LEGO Education WeDo Construction sets and related software, PTO president Nicole Evans told the Board of Education at a recent meeting.

School principal Andy Robbin said the tentative plan is to have 6- to 8-week sessions for second and third graders. The club would likely meet for an hour after school and students could participate on a rotating basis, he added.

The purchase was just one of many this year and the PTO raised more than $41,000, Evan said. Other purchases included numerous iPads and field-trip funding.

"It really is amazing the work you do," school board vice chair Beth Kandrysawtz said. "$41,000 is kind of a staggering number."

Next up, the organization will host the 52nd annual Children's Fair from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 31 at the school.

"We're very excited to organize a fair that has something for everyone," Evans said.
