Past Esteem Student Leaders Invited to 25th Reunion

Past leaders of ESTEEM of Canton High School are invited to a 25th year reunion on June 22.

Under the program, student leaders are chosen to be peer counselors and present workshops to younger students and their families. The programs focus on awareness of issues that lead to substance abuse, education, interacting with peers and family connections. It's presented primarily to 5th grade students and their families in Canton and elsewhere.

In started in 1988 when a similar two-day program was presented in Canton, inspiring those at the high school to start the program.

The program is great for the younger students as well as the presenters said, Heidi Zacchera, who advises the program with Joan Reiskin.

"The life connections are just awesome," she said.

On the 22nd, past student leaders will socialize, enjoy refreshments, watch some past performances and of course see how students of different generations work together like they did five years ago.

"I think it's great to see the kids get together and do some of the skits," Zacchera said.

The reunion takes place June 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Middle school cafeteria.
