Students at are busy putting the finishing touches on the Tenth Annual Prisms Concerts, which will now be held Sunday due to the weather forecast.

This year’s Prisms Concert will be a show about different kinds of shows, including, but not limited to, music and themes taken from Big Apple Circus, Cirque du Soleil, and even early 20th-Century opera.

It will feature both Canton High School’s Concert and Symphonic Bands, Jazz Workshop and Jazz Band, as well as many chamber groups such as the Flute Choir and Percussion Ensemble.

But the show is also a collaboration between many school departments and in addition to musicians will include dance, theater, art, multi-media and lighting effects.

“Prisms is in its tenth year and we realized that this was the time to really expand it into more parts of the school,” said Jenna Stanwood, a senior at Canton High School and one of the student producers of the show. “We are really excited to be working with the English and Theater Art Departments to make this show unlike any other before it. We are recruiting people from all over the school with many different kinds of talents that are going to add a lot to Prisms this year and make it truly unique.”

Tom Scavone, who chairs the Music Department for grades, K-12, and directs the Canton High School Instrumental Music Program, explains how unique this concert is to Canton.

“This is a show that is distinctly Canton,” he said. “It is put on nearly entirely by our students and is something completely different from your average high school band concert,” he said. “It’s not meant as a fundraiser or way to garner attention for our school. It’s just a show that we pour our time and effort into and make into something that we believe to be truly special.”

The tenth annual Prisms Concert: A Show of Shows, will take place Sunday, Feb. 6 at 2:30 p.m., in the Canton High School auditorium.

Tickets will be sold at the door: Adults are $10 and students and seniors $5.
