Dr. Grossman, Others to Play in Harlem Wizards Game

The world famous Harlem Wizards will take on local Canton teachers and principals on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 at Canton High School at 7 p.m. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jordan Grossman will play in the game, showing his support for this unique and fun community event.

The Harlem Wizards have a unique mission: to create awe-inspiring events throughout the country. At a Harlem Wizard’s game, fans will witness amazing basketball talent combined with hilarious comedy. It is a unique family event, where students, parents, teachers and the community can all laugh together. Throughout the game, fans will experience a display of tricks, coordinated ball handling, fancy passing and aerodynamic athleticism, combined with high-energy comedy and audience interaction.   

More than just basketball, the event is a comedic take on a regular basketball game, with lots of slam dunks, athletic tricks and humor, appealing particularly to young students.

The Harlem Wizards are a professional entertainment basketball team. They have toured the world with a team comprised of players with illustrious college and professional basketball careers. Each player brings their unique talent and humor to the court. The players are excellent role models for young people.  Local ESPN talent Sage Steele will be introducing our home team, The Canton Recess Rebounders!

The “Canton Recess Rebounders Team” includes Principal Robbin, from Cherry Brook, Mrs. Downey, Mrs. Gustafson, Ms. Campbell, Mrs. Daupinais, Mr. Sherman, Mrs. Capozzi, Mrs. Santanella, Mrs. Ferrone, Mrs. Roselli and Mr. Green. From Canton Intermediate School, Principal Hanlon, Mrs. Caron, Mrs. Dean, Mrs. Dropick, Mrs. Grescyzyk, Ms. Krazvitz, Mr. Larock and Mrs. McKay are all taking the court. Canton High School teachers include Coach Baton, Mr. O’Donnell and Mr. Phelps, who will have some fun playing with the Harlem Wizards.  The game includes an audience participation half time show and free autograph session for all at the end of the game.

Tickets are $10 for Students, $12 for Adults in advance.  There are also a limited number of Courtside VIP tickets, which include a pre-game Meet & Greet with 2 Harlem Wizard players, reserved courtside seating and a free Harlem Wizard photo. Ticket order forms are due December 6, 2013.  This event is expected to sell out so buy your tickets today. Any tickets still available go on sale at Valley Sports Center December 14, 2013.

There will be a raffle for five "guest" player spots on the “Canton Recess Rebounders Team”.  Raffle tickets are $10 per ticket and will be available for purchase at Valley Sports Center starting on Saturday, December 14th.  Potential players must be 18 years or older.  The "guest" players will be drawn approximately 1 week prior to game day and recipients will be notified on an individual basis.

Joe’s Pizza, water, juice, popcorn and cookies will be sold at the game, as well as Harlem Wizard souvenirs.
