Why Go: Children ages 3-8 are invited to come to the Avon Library's children's room to learn about turtles and small mammals.

Nature Walk: Stone Walls & Lichens

Where/When: , 35 Mountain Rd, Farmington, March 13, 1 p.m.
Why Go: With its three miles of stone walls, Hill-Stead is an ideal place to look at lichen, the colorful but often overlooked miraculous combination of fungus and algae. Learn about lichen and the history of Hill-Stead's stone walls on this easy walk with estate naturalist Diane Tucker. All ages welcome. Preregistration required: 860-677-4787 ext 142.
Pricing: $5 members, $8 non-members

Queen Esther's Tea

Where/When: Sycamore Hills Park Senior Center, 635 W Avon Rd, Avon, March 13, 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Why Go: Pre-Purim celebration sponsored by Chai: The Center for Jewish Life and the Emanuel Synagogue of West Hartford. Come in costume and be ready for crafts, food, fun and a Purim musical. The party will take place in the Community Room of the Senior Center. Please park at the West Entrance. Open to all. 860-677-1235. 
Pricing: $8 per family in advance; $12 at the door

Home School Day at The Children's Museum

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, at .
Why Go: The day includes special workshops and planetarium shows, opportunities to explore the museum’s many hands-on science and nature-related exhibits, and the chance for parents and kids to network with other home-school families. The workshops, classes and shows are appropriate for children ages five to 13.
Pricing
:$7 per student per workshop. Adult members or reciprocal members free, non members $7 per person including non participating children aged 2 and up.
