On Wednesday, June 6, Canton Public Library will host a presentation on skin cancer by the Farmington Valley Visiting Nurse Association. The program will cover the various types of skin cancer as well as precancer. The talk begins at 11:00 AM.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with more new cases diagnosed each year than breast, colon, prostate, and lung cancers combined. One in five Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer during their lifetime. If caught at an early stage, it can be curable.
The “Health Talk: Skin Cancer and Precancer” program will let attendees learn what they need to look for and what they should know about skin cancer. The presenter is Lori Hoover, RN BSN, a registered nurse and Manager of Community Programs with the Farmington Valley VNA. She will have educational literature for attendees to take home.
The Farmington Valley VNA has been serving individuals and families in the Farmington Valley for over 100 years. The association works with doctors, hospitals, insurance companies, and managed care providers to deliver a range of community-based healthcare services.
The program is free; registration is requested. Canton Public Library is at 40 Dyer Avenue, Canton. For information: (860) 693-5800 or www.cantonpubliclibrary.org
