Education Foundation Announces $6,000 for School Grants, Presents $5,000 from Shoppes

Announcement made at Board of Education Meeting Tuesday.

Canton Education Foundation members announced Tuesday that the organization is committing $6,000 for grants in the Canton Public Schools. 

The organization also presented the board with a check for $5,000 — funds provided by the . 

The $6,000 will be used to fund grant requests from Canton teachers. The grants will fund projects not included in the school's budget. Administrators will review the requests to make sure they don't end up costing the district money, board members said.

Foundation president Andrew Pidgeon said the amount is a minimum commitment and should the organization get more donations, it will send more the schools' way. 

The funds from the Shoppes will be used for health initiatives and Assistant Superintendent Jordan Grossman said his goal is to find a way to make sure it’s used for something that helps all Canton students.

The board accepted the gifts Tuesday night and chairwoman Beth Kandrysawtz said she is happy to have a recently renewed commitment from the foundation. 

"This is very generous and I'm thrilled to have this relationship back together," she said.
