Canton Intermediate School Students Outshoot Staff On the Basketball Court

Hayden DiMaio makes it 32-31 at the buzzer.

It was a classic basketball finish. Canton Intermediate School sixth-grader Hayden DiMaio took a shot at the last possible second. Students gripped their seats in the Canton High School gymnasium as the ball made its way to the basket. Swish! The crowd erupted as the shot made the final score 32-31 for the students.

It is approximately the eighth time CIS students and staff have faced off on the basketball court to benefit the school’s Parent Teacher Organization.  Susie Mather organized this year’s event, which took place Thursday night.

“It’s a great event,” said Principal Dr. Jordan Grossman. “It brings the school community together and it’s an opportunity for the kids the see their teachers in a different venue.”

PTO president Angie Abbott said the organization is still tallying the exact amount, but said the event raised approximately $1,800 through admission and snack sales.

The PTO raises some $30,000 a year for the school and is currently discussing the idea of saving enough money to share the cost of a mobile computer lab with the Board of Education. Its next fundraiser will be a golf tournament at Farmington Woods May 23. More Details about that will be coming soon. Those interested can periodically check this site or the PTO’s Website.
