Canton High School Students Begin Time in China

Two-week trip includes visit to sister school, famous sites.

Thirteen students, along with teachers and students from Housatonic Regional Valley High School, are in China for the next two weeks.

Canton has a sister school in Jining, Shandong Province. Students will spend three days at the school, staying with host families, Canton High School Principal Gary Gula said.

Before that, they will spend time in Beijing and Xi’an.

The students will visit places like the Great Wall of China, the Ming Tombs, the Provincial History Museum and the Temple of Heaven

“The experience of living with a Chinese family, seeing a Chinese school in action and seeing the sights of China will help our students better deal with living in a global society," Gula said.

The students will also drop off 100 pounds of donated items and $110 to a Beijing orphanage, the results of a drive spearheaded by Sarah Allen, with help from students, a local restaurant and her friends and family.
