CHS 2013 Graduation Speech: Class President Sarah Allen

Sitting before you is a truly unique graduating senior class. Most of us began our education right here in Canton with our first steps into Cherry Brook. Among us are future athletes, engineers, and teachers, and a whole bunch of ‘I have no idea’s. But whatever our futures hold is destined to be bright… I mean, we are the lucky class of ’13 after all.

And our luck, along with a lot of hard work has gotten us to this point today. Over the years we’ve had terrific coaches, amazing teachers, and tons of opportunities. This class has won state titles, traveled all over the world, and acquired the determination to succeed in the future.

Although we might not always appreciate it, we were really lucky to have grown up together. I know we all love to say that we can’t wait to get out of here, but deep down, Canton will always be our home. Last week, I received a letter that I wrote to myself in 8th grade. In addition to a detailed description of who slow danced together at the semi formal, was a list of all my best friends. Now, four years later, my list really wouldn’t be all that different, though I’m slow dancing with somebody else these days. I think I speak for my entire class when I say that the relationships we’ve formed here in Canton will last a lifetime.

So even though the track didn’t arrive in time for us to use it, and silly string was banned from spirit week, and Taylor Swift didn’t come to our senior prom… the graduating class beside me is still the luckiest class out there, because we’ve been together for the past 13 years in this caring and supportive community.

I personally want to acknowledge Ms. Rich and Ms. Mancini for guiding us through our high school years. They certainly maintained my sanity in planning our proms and fundraising events. In general, I think we also need to give a big thanks to our parents… the people who taught us how to tie our shoes and ride a bike… and who will be signing those tuition checks next year.

The last thing I want to say is just what a blessing it was to have Mr. Gula as our principal for the past four years. He always has such a positive outlook and talking to him just brightens your day.

Ladies and gentlemen, family, friends, and distinguished guests, it is my pleasure to (finally) introduce to you the Canton High School Graduated Class of 2013!
