Chinese Students to Visit Canton Next Week

Next week, 16 students and four teachers from Canton High's sister school in Jining, China will visit town.

Recently 20 students and three chaperones from Canton High School spent two weeks in China, a trip that included a visit to that school.

Superintendent Kevin Case, who was one of three chaperones on the trip, told the Board of Education Wednesday that it was a positive experience.

The school visit was a very interesting way to note differences in education, Case said. For example, teachers at the Chinese school have 70 to 80 kids in a crowded classroom but only have two classes a day.

The sister school relationship was established in 2007 and the recent trip was the third time Canton students have visited.

Case also mentioned a few trip highlights from the trip to China, such as a visit to a silk worm factory in Shanghai.

"It was a great experience," Case said.

Some time in May, the board will receive a more formal presentation from students and staff who took the trip, Case added.
