Cherry Brook PTO Explores Playground Project

Fun Run raises nearly $10,000

Submitted Release

Pending Board of Education approval, the Cherry Brook Parent Teacher Organization will explore a playground project at the school.

The Cherry Brook PTO is looking to replace both the larger and smaller aging wooden playground sets with more modern, accessible sets — creating an inclusive community playground.

For its kick-off fundraiser the PTO chose a Fun Run at Cherry Brook Primary. Members felt it was important to hold the kick off at Cherry Brook and involve the children, parents and teachers. 418 Cherry Brook friends and family registered to walk/skip/run a one-mile loop.

The children were encouraged to ask family and friends to pledge a flat rate and the event generated $9,800.

Mrs. Ferrone's 3rd grade class raised the most amount of money and was honored with "the golden sneaker award."

The 2nd grade had the most student participation and will be able to choose their own lunch seats for a lunch in the month of November. All Cherry Brook children who participated in the Fun Run have their name on the "Wall of Fame."

All parents who registered were entered to win a round of golf for 2 at Tower Ridge County Club and the lucky winners were Sofia Ackels' parents and Lyla O'Connor's parents.

The Cherry Brook PTO would like to thank their sponsors:

  • Hayward Farm for donating 300 apples
  • BJs for donating 150 bananas
  • Mr. Trophy for the Golden Sneaker Award
  • Tower Ridge for the 4 rounds of golf
  • Webster Bank, which donated 200 water bottles
The PTO would also like to thank Principal Andy Robbin, PE Teacher Mr. O'Meara and the Cherry Brook staff for all their help putting this race together. Without their help and support this would not have been possible.

PTO President Tracy Renaud, Co Vice President Anne Marie Pelletier and Co-Treasurer MJ Holowesko will be on the Board Of Education agenda Nov. 26 to present the Playground project. Those who would like to hear more about the project are encouraged to attend.
