Cherry Brook Primary School Teachers to ‘Work’ at McDonald’s for Fundraiser

Event set for 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 11.

Submitted release

On the evening of Feb. 11, educators from Cherry Brook Primary School in Canton will wait on their students and members of the community for an evening as they team up with Canton McDonald’s Owner/Operator Alicia Canning to raise money for their school.

As part of this unique McTeacher’s Night fundraiser, the principal and teachers will have a new job for the evening working side by side with McDonald’s crew taking orders and cooking hamburgers and McDonald’s famous french fries.

A percentage of the proceeds from food and beverage sales between 5 and 7 p.m. will be donated to the elementary school for programs, equipment or other special projects. Students and members of the community are invited to come down and order their favorite McDonald’s meals from a principal or teacher and help the school.

As a parent of an incoming kindergarten student, I'm very disappointed to learn that Cherrybrook is teaming up with McDonald's and suggesting that students and families eat there. I'm aware that donations for schools are hard to come by, but surely there is some standard for choosing how Cherrybrook partners with a business for fundraising? I'd like the school system to partner with me and other parents to help our children learn to make wise nutritional choices. Perhaps our town needs a visit from Jamie Oliver?

Is there a way we can donate to the school without having to buy nasty McD's food?
