Cherry Brook Primary School PTO Hosts Book Fair Family Night

Scholastic sale continues from Thursday; V.I.P. breakfast set for Friday morning.

The Cherry Brook Primary School Parent Teacher Organization hosted a All Star Book Fair Family Night Wednesday with crafts, refreshments, special guest readers and, of course, book sales.

The event was part of the All Star Scholastic Book Fair, which runs through Friday. The PTO receives a portion of the sales from the week-long Book Fair, which typically raises thousands, event co-chair Jen Forslund said. Much of the money goes toward school library efforts, she said.

Books were sold during the event, which also featured celebrity readers, including Bev Kibbe, who retired last year after 30 years of teaching in Canton.

Also in Kibbe's honor is an All For Books Campaign in which Scholastic will donate $2 for every $1 from a Cherry Brook student. The funds go toward school library books and information on the program went home with students this week.

The family night is a fun one and the kids are excited for the events and to show parents the books they want, said Melissa Antarsh, the other co-chair for the event.

"It's great to see parents support reading in our schools," she said.

The book sale continues through 4 p.m. today and runs 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Friday morning the PTO will also sponsor a V.I.P. morning breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. For that effort, students can bring a guest, such as a grandparent or baby sitter, and enjoy a little food while browsing for books.
