Children’s Fair Nets $5,300 for Cherry Brook PTO

Event held for 51st year.

The Cherry Brook Primary School Parent Teacher Organization raised approximately $5,300 from the school's 51st Annual Children's Fair Saturday, said organizer Amy Orschel.

Despite some sporadic morning rain, crowds were steady and more than 300 children and their families attended, organizers said.

The event featured a bounces house, games, live music from The Substitutes, food, a cake walk, face painting, raffles and more. The town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department, Police Department and Public Works Department displayed vehicles and the Rotary Club of Avon-Canton provided Amber Alert sign-ups.

Orschel said about 110 volunteers made the day possible.

"this thing is a joke" isn't reasoned argument and no one should listen to anyone whoRead More refuses to give his last hame.

I voted no - this thing is a joke. it's not a public facilty, it's a truck shed. you can buy steelRead More garage enclosures for $200K that will accomplish the exact same result.

Well said Mr. Franks! A new town garage is needed, but not at that price tag. The town leadershipRead More needs to offer a far better option to the voters than this. I am also voting NO...

Peter, "grub site" means to remove brush and shrubs not remove june bug grubs--but I thinkRead More you knew that. Two acres not two trees, etc. Do you really believe the educated people of Canton are so stupid that they will fall for last minute scare tactics? Not only are you dishonest but you are a coward for hiding behind an alias.

you want facts.. go here: http://www.townofcantonct.org/content/74/14580.aspx and be prepared to beRead More violently mad! $47,500 for grub removal on the lawn $20,000 to cut down 2 trees (doesn't the town do that already?) $3,000 for a flag-less flag pole $4,000 break room counter $1,000 for a one urinal screen $5,000 for a toilet paper dispenser $10,000 locker for our few employees $500,000 for A/C so our trucks stay cool in the summer $16,000 for a hot water tank (sears has for $400) and many many many more scams

Another person claiming the people of Canton are not informed... but you offer no information, justRead More your opinion that we should blindly vote yes. No has yet been able to articulate the "why" and the "value"... what is the return on investment in this pet project? This garage is an absolute SCAM... it's someone's get-rich quick scheme and they will be walking away with $4M and we will be left with a $1.4M garage that isn't needed.

The real reason people are opposing this plan is a "not in my backyard" attitude--it hasRead More nothing to do with cost. If so many people in town were so concerned about wasteful expenditures, we would have heard them complain about $3.6 million for a track and field! When the "dumb" location argument failed to make headway, the opponents to the "dumb" garage plan, acting purely out of self-interest and not for the common good, switched to a financial argument. You can't fool me: I voted yes.
Kevin Jackson May 22, 2013 at 09:39 pm
Sorry Wayne, the real reason was our elected "leaders" couldn't produce a clear case forRead More why we should vote yes and they were unwilling to allow anyone else to bring viable solutions to the table.

There is one BIG BIG thing missing from this entire six year long process. the need was neverRead More assessed, there is no return on investment, it's complete overkill and wasteful spending and no one challenged the outrageously over priced estimates. And this was not very public... all the key documents are pretty well hidden on Canton's site.. if you don't happen to get the secret hidden link then you won't get the facts. you want facts.. go here: http://www.townofcantonct.org/content/74/14580.aspx and be prepared to be violently mad!
