Cherry Brook Primary School Holds May Dance

Submitted release

The rainy weather doesn’t dampen the spirit of the of Cherry Brook Primary School students when they want to celebrate spring! On Friday, May 24, the children held their annual May Dance Celebration.

A tradition for as many years as anyone can remember, the May Dance is anticipated by all. Every student in each grade level participates in the music and dance festivities, and their families and friends gather to watch. Although it is optimal for the event to be held outside, this year the weather did not cooperate, and it had to be held in the CBPS gymnasium.

However, the children did not seem to mind! It still gave them the opportunity to display what they’ve been practicing for several weeks!

This year, the Kindergartners performed the Chimes of Dunkirk Dance, Grade One performed Alabama Gal, Grade Two did The Basket Weave Dance, and Grade Three a Square Dance. To finish off the event, 48 third graders, coordinated in colors to match the May Pole, and with what seems precision timing, stroll to the May Dance tune as they wrap the strands around the May Pole as the traditional celebration of spring.

The program, coordinated by CBPS music teacher Luann Saunders, is one of the reasons why Canton has won the National American Music Merchants (NAMM) for the third year in a row.
