Case: Searches For CIS Principal, AD Going Well

Superintendent provides BOE with update.

Searches for a new Canton Intermediate School principal and permanent athletic director are going well, Superintendent Kevin Case said.

Case updated the Board of Education this week. The district received 31 applications for the principal position, he said. The position will be open once current principal Dr. Jordan Grossman officially becomes Assistant Superintendent of Schools on Jan. 1, 2012. He was appointed to the position to replace Lynn McMullin, who has accepted a job as Superintendent of Schools in Orange and is leaving Canton at the end of December.

Many of the applicants are current principals or assistant principals, Case said.

"I'm really proud we were able to attract such a pool in Canton," Case said.

An interview committee has narrowed down the candidates and plans to interview 14 next week, he said.

From there the hope is to narrow it down to 2 to 4 candidates and do a final round of interviews in late November, he added.

The district is hoping to do a site visit to a finalist's district on Dec. 5 and have a candidate for the board's consideration Dec. 13, Case said. That would likely result in a mid January start date.

"We want to have someone in place no later than Feb. 1," Case said.

The district is also searching for a permanent athletic director. John Bement resigned effective Oct. 1 for a private sector job and in September, former Suffield High School Athletic Director Fran Aniello was appointed interim AD.

Four candidates applied and two finalists were interviewed this week, Case said.

Now the district is performing reference checks.

"Depending on how that goes, we should be able to name a new AD soon," Case said.
