Canton Students Recognized By Superintendents Association

Recipients honored at luncheon.

 

Two Canton students were among those honored at a recent Farmington Valley Superintendents' Association Student Recognition Awards Program.

Abigail Szpekman, an 8th grader at Canton Middle School and Julia Kuhlberg, a Canton High School senior, were recognized during a luncheon at the Farmington Country Club Dec. 9. The award honors students who achieve academic success while showing leadership and community involvement.

Szpekman is an honor student, has taken an active role in Canton Substance-Free Students Club, participates in chorus and band and has been a member of a friends group that welcomes incoming seventh-graders, Principal Joe Scheideler wrote for the program notes.

Kuhlberg is a student representative to the Board of Education, three-year secretary for the Class of 2012, a tutor and member of the Interact, Yearbook, National Honor Society and other clubs. Last year, she was garnered the Dartmouth Book Award, which honors well-rounded students who are involved in their community.

"Julia's character is beyond reproach as she consistently displays integrity, optimism and a genuine concern for others," Principal Gary Gula wrote for the event program.
