Canton Middle School Hosts Promotion Ceremony

Olympics is the theme of the evening.

Known for its elaborate themes, the 8th-grade promotion ceremony did not disappoint Thursday night. From the moment they arrived, visitors knew they were part of the Middle School Olympics, complete with signs, slogans, flags from places near and far and motivational speeches.

The ceremony featured the 8th-grade chorus, a memory video by student Allison Sugar and presentation of the certificates. Along the way, attendees heard speeches from principal Joe Scheideler, Board of Education member Laurie McKenna, math teacher Scott Spencer and Student Council President Mia Tuccillo.

After the ceremony was held in the middle school cafeteria with world foods, free backpacks and more decorations.

Volunteers co-chaired by Angela Abbott and Jennifer Bahre — with “special thanks” to Susie Mather — organized the reception and decorations.
