Canton Intermediate School Rocks Again for CCMC

This year Canton Intermediate School simply rocked harder.

By the time the 7th Annual R.O.C.K. (Rock On to Cure Kids) fundraiser to benefit the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center's Pediatric Oncology Unit began Friday night, fundraising had already surpassed the $8,000 raised last year. Also 190 kids participated, compared to 120 a year earlier.

The fundraiser involves teams that obtain sponsors for six hours of “rockin” in the rocking chairs. Kids paid a $10 entry fee, sold raffle tickets, competed for sponsor prizes and more. A penny jar competition was also held with Erik Perotti's class taking the top honors with $850.

The events also included a raffle, games, music and more. Numerous restaurants and other businesses sponsored the event and provided food and refreshment.

This year the event was also held at Valley Sports Center for the first time.

"It has been a great way to get the whole community involved," said Jennifer Csida, who organized the event with fellow sixth-grade teacher Tracey Reichen.

She said it also carries an important message.

"We really do it so kids can learn the importance of giving back," Csida said.

In all the event through the years has raised more than $60,000 to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
