Program designed to encourage youth to be their best and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Submitted release

A group of students from Canton High School is organizing a program designed to benefit all local high school students.

The program, “Fit for the Future—A Youth Experience” is funded through a grant and mentoring program.

The event is free to all attendees and will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Bridge Street Live, 41 Bridge St. in Collinsville.

The program will offer attendees an interactive experience, including guest speaker John Gallagher, several workshops including Mock Job & College interviews, and activities including WiFit, all with the purpose of inspiring young men and women to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

“These four students have worked with the marketing and management team here at The Shoppes to design this program. From concept to implementation, they have learned the process that goes into organizing a meaningful community event designed to benefit their peers,” said Denise L. Robidoux, general manager for The Shoppes at Farmington Valley.

Sponsored by The Shoppes at Farmington Valley and Bridge Street Live, along with other local businesses, the event will help to encourage our youth to stay active and develop healthy habits by emphasizing issues such as good nutrition, maintaining a positive self-image, the importance of community involvement, and skills for interviewing at colleges and for a job.

Pre-registration for the Fit for the Future is required to attend. Simply send an email to fitforthefuturegeneration@gmail.com to register.
