Canton High School's 2013 Graduation: A Gallery

Canton High School hosted its 2013 graduation ceremony under clear skies Friday night.

It was a special nights for 117 graduates as well as principal Gary Gula, who retired after leading the school since 1995.

Here are some photos from the evening and in case you're wondering, the annual "gift" graduates gave to principal Gary Gula were cans of silly string, a substance that had been banned from spirit week.

Of course there were plenty of serious moments for the retiring principal as well.

He received an honorary diploma and cap from Superintendent Kevin D. Case and Board of Education chairman Leslee Hill.

In her address valedictorian Hayley Kolding paid homage to Gula as well as the retiring Steve Messier:

"I’m speaking for all of our class when I say that we’re especially grateful to be completing our time here alongside two of the most remarkable men we know: Mr. Messier, who has inspired us with his sense of wonder for nature, and Mr. Gula, who honors us with just as much patience, life lessons, and love as the best of fathers would give his children. He has guided us through four years of high school with kindness and strength, and we wish him the best of luck in his retirement."
