Canton Dollars for Scholars to Host Annual Craft Fair

Submitted by Julie Rush, Canton Dollars for Scholars

Canton Dollars for Scholars proudly sponsors their fourth annual Canton Holiday Craft Fair, to be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at Canton High School, 76 Simonds Avenue, Canton, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It’s becoming a holiday tradition in the Farmington Valley and expanding each year.  This fall, the Craft Fair will be held in the spacious CHS gymnasium, providing easy one-stop shopping for craft fair guests.

This year over 500 shoppers are expected, and they’ll have much to explore.  Up to 75 vendors will showcase a wide variety of artisan creations-— wood, jewelry, metal, fiber and fabric arts, gourmet food gifts, handmade soaps and scents, photography, teacup auction and more.  Services for home and health are featured too, with reflexology, therapeutic massage and free blood pressure readings as well.  Of course, lunch items and delicious baked goods will be ready when a “recharge” is needed!

The Canton Holiday Craft Fair means shopping for a good cause — high school seniors from Canton who are pursuing higher education. Canton Dollars for Scholars (CDFS) uses funds raised through the fair to support the 2014 Scholarship Fund.  CDFS provides scholarships to deserving high school seniors residing in Canton, whether they attend Canton public schools or private, parochial or home-based schools. Scholarships are available for two- and four-year colleges and universities, as well as trade and vocational schools and certificate programs.

Contrary to popular belief, top grades are not always necessary to receive an award; many scholarships focus on service to others, ethics, choice of major or choice of educational path. In this way, CDFS is able to reach out to a wider range of promising young people to help them achieve their educational goals.

In early 2014, Canton Dollars for Scholars will go live with their website, www.canton.dollarsforscholars.org.  Students will apply for scholarships easily online, and parents and donors can get information quickly as well.  CDFS president Pat Maloy can answer any questions about Dollars for Scholars at patmaloy203@hotmail.com. Any questions about the Holiday Craft Fair may be directed to vendor chairperson Tammie Coffey at dremkr@aol.com.

Those who would like to donate to Canton Dollars for Scholars may send their check (payable to CDFS) to:  Canton Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 671, Canton, CT 06019.
