Canton BOE Thanks White, Rhea and Kandrysawtz for Their Service

As the Canton Board of Education gathered Tuesday evening it marked the final meeting for three of its members.

Patti White, Carlene Rhea and Beth Kandrysawtz all decided not to seek re-election to the board this year. This November, Kandrysawtz was successful in seeking a position on the Board of Finance.

White and Kandrysawtz served on the school board for 8 years and Rhea for 12. Kandrysawtz was most recently vice chair and also served as chair. Rhea and White also held leadership positions during their time on the board.

Each member was presented with a paver that will be displayed in the front walk area in front of Canton Middle/High School.

“It truly is bittersweet for me both personally and professionally,” said Superintendent Kevin Case. He said the three were the last serving members from the board that hired him seven years ago.

“Your feedback and participation has made me a better superintendent every day,” Case said.

“It has really has been my honor to serve on the Board of Education,” White said. “While it has been a huge time commitment, it's more about what you gain by being a member of the board.”

White said highlights included having a voice in the school district, handing her children their diplomas at graduation and being a part of the hiring committees “that made significant improvements to our school system, including most notably hiring our exceptional superintendent - Kevin Case.”

She also said she’s enjoyed working with “intelligent, funny, committed individuals — all working toward making the schools in our town better for our children.”

Joining the board will be Ana Cavanaugh, Jack Powell and Julie Ausere, who were all recently elected in an uncontested race. Current board chair Leslee Hill and current appointed member Dana Kosior were also seated in that election.
