Submitted release

On Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 Canton Middle School will host Bring Your Parent to Canton Middle School For Internet Day.  Parents are invited to come to school to participate in workshops and hear Mr. Richard Guerry speak on ways to help students make the internet work for them and learn to prevent issues and problems in the digital world.  Mr. Guerry will address parents in two groups.  At 8:00 am he will present a program called “Public and Permanent” and 9:15 he will complete a digital “Risk Assessment” with parents.  Similar program will follow for students later in the morning.

Mr. Guerry is the Executive Director of the Institute for Responsible Online and Cell Phone Communication. Mr. Guerry spoke at Canton Middle School a year ago to rave reviews. His program provides students and parents with a greater awareness of negative, irresponsible, and malicious digital behaviors and trends and the method to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of cyber-crime, bullying, or digital exploitation. The program received the 2010 Exemplary School Safety program Award by the School Safety Advocacy Council.
