A Big Win on a Historic Night for Canton

The Canton Warriors Football team dominated the field Friday night in a decisive 42-16 win on a historic night.

The Warriors not only beat Lewis Mills but it marked the inagural game on Canton's new track and multi-use athletic field.

"It was nice to break in the new field with a big win," said senior co-captain Quinten Permenter. "Whenever we play as a team we always come out on top."

"It was a great way to christen it," agreed Eric Scott, another senior co-captain.

With the game, Canton improves its record to 6-3.

Coach Paul Philippon said he was thrilled for his team.

"I'm especially happy for the seniors, who put a lot into this program," he said.

The coach said he is also grateful to the community for the new facility, which voters approved bonding for last fall.

Hundreds of spectators came out for the game.

"It's a terrific night for everybody," said A.J. Zukowski, president of the Friends of Canton Football. "It shows what a Friday night can and should be."

"This is just the beginning," said Jon Webb, a former Board of Education member and advocate for the facility. "Long after our kids are gone this will continue to be a community hub."
