This fall, the school district will once again honor a half dozen of its alumni who have made a positive impact in their communities, many right in Canton.
This week, Canton Public Schools announced the 2012 Wall of Fame inductees, who will be honored during Alumni Weekend in October.
They include:
- Tim LeGeyt, Class of 1969
- Teresa Martin Dotson, Class of 1984
- The late David Whirty, Class of 1973
- Bruce Lockwood, Class of 1983
- Mike O’Brien, Class of 1960
- Jim Bahre, Class of 1949
Six high school students will be chosen to interview the honorees and introduce them and talk about their accomplishments at a special banquet.
“The whole purpose is for Canton High School graduates to serve as role models and mentors our current population,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jordan Grossman
The wall is an ongoing effort that began in 2002 when Grossman was assistant principal at Canton High School. At its height, the nearly 400 people participated in the banquet, which was preceded by a parade.
In 2011, the event was lapsed but Grossman said the goal is to bring it back and keep it going.
“What we’re trying to do is build this back up,” he said.
While there will be no parade this year, there will be numerous sports contests, including an alumni games in field hockey and girls and boys soccer.
‘”It’s going to be a full weekend of different activities,” Grossman said.
At an alumni banquet Friday Oct 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the high school, the inductees will be presented.
In addition, two sponsors, Henry J. Bahre Real Estate, and Realty Works, have stepped up, allowing the school to charge just $15 for the banquet.
