Zoning Hearing Delayed Until March 21

Amendment could pave way for pharmacy.

A Zoning Commission hearing on Konover Development’s regulation and master plan amendment for property at  Lawton Road and Route 44 has been postponed until March 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

The date had been set for earlier in the month but was changed because of a delay in the filing of the proposed changes with the Town Clerk.

Konover is planning to bring a pharmacy to anchor development at the corner. It has an approval for the property but now wants to spread development over three areas instead of two and add a public access driveway from Lawton Road, an idea that has brought some resistance from residents in the area.

Konover said the change will not significantly increase traffic on the road and says other changes on Lawton and Route 44 will actually improve traffic flow. Many residents have disagreed and said it will cause more traffic on Lawton, Washburn and other area roads.

The Planning Commission recently issued a positive referral for the amendment, with several suggestions concerning traffic and other issues, to the Zoning Commission.
