Wind Turbine Coming to Route 44 Property

Zoning Commission has approved wind turbine, first of its kind in the state.

The Canton Zoning Commission has voted to permit construction of a wind turbine to generate electrical power at a home on Route 44, the first of its kind in Connecticut, according to The Canton News.

The commission voted 6-0 on April 18 to  approve a special exception to allow Andrew Chellman to install the turbine at his home at 650 Albany Turnpike, according to minutes from the meeting. The windmill is 35 feet tall, with 15-foot blades, creating a smaller profile than traditional wind turbines, Tom Weims of PurePoint Energy, the company that makes the turbines, told the commission. It is also quieter and less dangerous to birds, he said.
